I just upgraded to Solaris 9, and have NIS+ running on the system.

I find that when I try to change the password on user accounts:

passwd -r nisplus guest

it now prompts me for the root password.

Does anyone have any idea why it wants roots password?

you are root on a nisplus client or the Master (or a Replicant)?
uuuh, it's long time ago, but wasn't this like that, that you have to authenticate to nisplus to change values in a database?

Franz,
I am root on the master server. I never had this problem before. It did not require a root password.

Here is something interesting I found out. Initially, it did not allow me to change passwords at all, as root, until I executed a keylogin command. Now, it allows me to change passwords, but after prompting me for the root passwd.

Do you think that roots' authentication is messed up?

Thanks in advance,
Krishani.

I guess yes, but it is to long ago to tell you what to do...
