Changing Paper orientation

I have a problem that seems so easy to solve I find it very frustrating that I am so perplexed.

We have custom sized labels that we want to print to our HPLJ5Si. The manual feed tray on this printer requires you to feed the long side first into the printer. However when we do this the labels jam. I need to be able to feed the labels through short side first. I have tried switching the label definition to landscape but no matter how much I fuss with the dimensions of the labels I can't get them to print properly.

Is there a way to change the printer preferences somewhere to accept the paper short side first?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

There is a provision for this. Look in the printer instruction manual for "Printing Rotated Paper" for details.

It does not involve an orientation change.
