I need to change a NIS Master Server urgently and would appreciate any advice from anybody who has undertaken this task.

This is from some old notes

Deleting / Creating NIS+ Server
cd /var/nis
rm -r *
rm /etc/.rootkey

reboot

nisserver -r -d york.xx.co.uk.
nispopulate -F -p /etc -d york.xx.co.uk. (however may lose services group and passwd entries)

or

NIS+ Building a Root Master Server
on server: nisserver -r -d york.xx.co.uk
nispopulate -F -p /etc -d york.xx.co.uk.
nislog | wc -l
nisping -C york.xx.co.uk.
nislog | wc -l (list log entries)
nisls org_dir (list tables)
niscat hosts.org_dir (list entries in host table)
reboot

That's all I have time for, hope this helps
