Hi Guys,

I have a machine that came with True 64 Unix V 4.0G already preinstalled on it with a name "X"
I want to change the name of the machine from "X" to "Y". I am talking about the machine name and not its ip address or name.

Can I just edit the file /sys/conf/"X" and change the line

ident "X"

to
ident "Y"
and then reboot??

TIA

Eshta !

Have you tried using the hostname command or am I being silly ?

simply use 'hostname newname' you need to be root of course

Hi MKMA,

Use the following command instead of hostname command:

rcmgr set HOSTNAME Y

This modifies /etc/rc.config file. You may like to edit this file also. Open /etc/rc.config file using vi and replace X by Y in HOSTNAME field.

If you use hostname command to change hostname, at next reboot it will revert.

Mail me at your success.

Thanks
