Hello

I am trying to change the design properties of a mouse over. I have completed half of it - changing the black text on a red background to a black text on a purple background.

I don't quite know how I did this, but I think I opened the 'Back to Main' symbol (it's a Movie Clip) on the stage and clicked on each of the 20 or so frames individually, and then clicking on a purple fill colour for each time I did this.

What I would now like to change is the red text which appears when the mouse goes over the symbol to my purple colour, but whatever I do I can't seem to get it to work.

I have uploaded a screen shot of my stage:

Many thanks for any help.

Hello Ken

I locate the symbol (symbol 35) in the library, right-click and go to Edit. The symbol appears on the stage and in the Actions panel I have:

on (rollOver) {gotoAndPlay(2)}
on (rollOut) {gotoAndPlay(13)}
on (release) {
_root.p=3;
_root.play();
}

Properties tells me I have a button (symbol 129) and its size and dimensions, but under colour it says 'None'.

I double-click on symbol 35, and where it says - along the top Scene 1 Symbol 35 - another symbol appears, symbol 129, a button (there is nothing here in the Actions panel). If I double-click on it again, the button disappears and I am back to symbol 35.

I have a screen shot here:

I am not sure there is enough information here for you to make an assessment on but, as I say, I am happy with the Back to Main button in its 'Up' (normal) mode. It is just that I would like to change the text colour (from red to purple), once the mouse goes over it.

Where the button is now black text on a purple background, it used to be black text on a red background. I changed this by clicking on each individual frame in the Timeline then clicking the background colour tool set to purple. This did change the red background to purple - but did not change the 'mouseOver' design properties.

To answer your question, what happens is that when I click on each individual frame in the Timeline, I can see a sort of colourless shadow slowly move, frame-by-frame, across the length of the button.

I'm not sure if this helps much.

Thank you again for your time.

Steve

When roll over, the play head moves to frame 2 of the "Symbol 35 copy" timeline (which is in your screen shot), then carries on to the frame 12, then stops. (It's hard to tell without looking at whole thing, but I presume that's the case.) So if you want to change the appearance of this "Symbol 35 copy" on roll over state, go to the frame 12. There's a key frame in Layer 2. What's in that key frame (either the frame property or the element in the frame itself) is what you want to change.

Hello Ken

Many thanks for your reply.

That seemed to do the trick! I just clicked on frame 12 in layer 2, chose my colour to replace what I could see in the colour panel, and it worked.

Best regards

Steve
