I just started a franchise business with Auntie Ann in the past few months. I bought the Micro e7 POS directly from Auntie Ann as part of the business. Recently, I found another credit card merchant services fee is way cheaper and can save me $200 to $300 from monthly fee compare to my current merchant services(FIRST DATA). I wanted to change to that merchant services. That merchant services needs to know the current software being used on the Micro e7 so they can know whether or not they can re-program the software. I called Autie Ann help desk and was told that I can go with any merchant services I want but HD will only support merchant services that they already established relationship with. They said I'm on my own to figure out and make the change by myself and didn't even provide the software info. I called Micro e7 tech support directly but Micro e7 refused to provide any support because I didn't buy the Micro e7 directly from them. I need help. Please some tech savvy out there help me with the info of how can I find out what type of software is being used on the micro e7. If I want to re-program for different merchant services by myself, would that be hard? If Possible please provide all the steps to re-program it.

It's my understanding that you are NOT able to change your processor yourself in any Micros POS system. The responses you got are strange because those responses came from the only people who can assist you with the change. You will have to purchase services from Micros in order to get it done. Can you imagine the outcry if you needed service for your Ford car and the Ford Dealer you brought it to said "sorry can't help you or sell you parts because you didn't buy the car from us". 100% BS. Beware of the conditions when you purchase proprietary equipment.

Oh man I'm totally agree with you but I can't do a damn thing about it right now. I wish some great guys will help me out and definitely will pass the warning about Micro POS to all my friends.

E7 should have the drivers built in to the software already. First Data should provide you with the necessary parameter worksheet where you can change the setup in the CA/EDC in the configurator.

I see. Thank you. I will call first data to get the info.

This isn't something unqiue to POS Software or Micros software. Virtually any software company will respond the same if you approach them with a copy of software you didn't purchase from them. They charge a licensing fee, and technically speaking, Auntie Ann is breaking their TOS if they actually re-sold the system to you - the software is non-transferable, as is most software.

Who is the new processor? Micros e7 supports very few direct drivers; you will likely have to go through a gateway. Once you have the info on whether they actually support e7, its fairly simply to setup. You just fine the CA/EDC setup in the configurator and plug in the information they give you. You won't have to install any drivers; e7 doesn't support non-integrated credit card drivers.

Moregelen says: "Virtually any software company will respond the same if you approach them with a copy of software you didn't purchase from them"

I think that would be better phrased if you included "Virtually any software company that sells it's own proprietary hardware". Micros didn't quote a price to help, quote a price for a relicense fee etc; Micros said sorry can't help and goodbye. IMHO Micros is a hardware company first, software second.

Thank you guys,

I called First Data and they gave me a punch of codes but I still don't know how to change the merchant ID on the M. E7.

That isn't how they see it. They are a software company first, hardware second, at least since the Oracle acquisition. The margin on the new tablets and workstation is about $40. We don't make money on hardware anymore, its all in software. The new hardware isn't even being made by Micros, its all going through third party manufacturers who produce consumer hardware.

Plus, the primary source of income has always been software even before this change. The initial hardware purchase makes a nice chunk of change (at least, it used to), no doubt, but it was software that sustained the giant.

This change could end up really hurting the dealers.. yet to be seen how badly though. Most of us have built our companies around providing hardware support.
