My network people have told me that I need to change all of my machine names to Fully Qualified Domain Names.
I have set up the new names and been blessed by network, but how do I go about changing the BCM name and what horrible things might happen?
I am supposed to do this to the Call Pilots, VoIP gateways etc.
Second Question, Where is the MAC address information?

Changing the BCM name is not a big deal - it's simply the NETBIOS name of the BCM. 15 characters or less - and it can't be a FQDN. For example, the machine name can be MYBCM, but not MYBCM.MYDOMAIN.COM. You can change the name of the system through the Unified Manager by clicking on the word System. If the BCM is a member of the domain, make sure that the network folks have created a computer account in the domain for whatever the new machine name will be. If it's still in a workgroup, no need to worry about that.

There isn't a separate name for CallPilot or the IP gateways.

MAC address can be found under Resources, LAN, then click on LAN 1 or LAN 2. The MAC address is listed third item down next to Physical Address.

See what happens when a phone guy trys to learn how to spell Eye Tee.
biv343, thanks. Here is an example of a bcm name.
bis-trtrvsbc40 does that look like no conflicts?
Appreciate the help.

That should work without any problems. I don't believe dashes or underscores are a problem with netbios PC names. If it doesn't like it, it will definitely tell you though.

Glad to help. I started out backwards from what seems like everyone else - as an IT guy who became a phone guy. Trust me, I like phones a lot better than PC's - phones actually listen to you.... : )
