Hi Guys, I have a friend of mine in the UK who was to telling me he brought a laptop in italy a few weeks ago. The problem is he can't seem to change the language settings! I talked him through control panel and changing the language settings there but it does not work. He said that a friend of his told him that if Vistas Italian is loaded that is what you have to use. Is this right?? Apparently in order to change the language we have to reload it with an english copy.

I don't personaly use Vistas so am a bit of a novice with it but I am going back to the UK tomorrow and am wondering if there is something I can do to fix it while I am there. Have looked on Microsoft for some kind of language pack or something but cannot find anything.

Any help will be appreciated

Rob

p.s don't know if it helps but his laptop is an ACER Travelmate 5520.

Your friend is pretty much stuck with having to obtain an English version of the OS to install. Windows is shipped to different areas of the world as localized copies. The only cure for this issue is to install the correct version of the OS or obtain the MUI pack which will allow you to install different language packs to the OS. Your friend will not be able to do the latter either as using the MUI will not be possible in Vista Home Premium. See the below links for more information.

- Guide to Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface

Licensing requirements state that versions of the Windows Vista operating system can include only a single language, with the exception of the Windows Vista™ Ultimate and the Windows Vista™ Enterprise editions. For editions other than Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows will automatically remove all non-default languages from the computer after the end user completes the Windows Welcome.

Thanks for the info. Bit of a pain in the neck really but hey what you gonna do. Will have to reinstall vistas in english or xp english. Just annoying as the company he brought it from were a: supposed to put english version on there and b: said if we change it, then the 2yr warranty will be void which I have found in the past to be very valuable when it comes to laptops.

Thanks again

Rob
