Sorry if this question has been answered already but..

How do I change IPs? I use Comcast Cable. Please use basic language, I have barely any experience in computer stuff, all I took was computer applications (high school course). I heard there's a way where you can disconnect your cable modem from your computer. I already tried it but I might have done it wrong. If you know this method, plz give specific directions on what to do and any other methods of changing your IP address. thx.

Why would you want to change your IP ? One very simple way is to disconnect the power and the coax cable from your modem for at least 30 minutes and then replugging it back. The other way is clicking on Start, then Run, then type CMD, then press enter. After that, type ipconfig /release and then enter. Then type ipconfig /renew and then enter. That should also renew your IP.

You may not be able to. ComCast may have reserved an IP address for you, and that will be tied to your cable modem - which means there's nothing you could do.

That said, follow akwong's advice, because if it can be changed, this is the way to do it.

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[ul][li]please tell us if our suggestion has helped[/li][li]need some help? faq581-3339[/li][/ul]

I use Time Warner Road Runner. A cd came with the package
called jumpstart. When installed there is a set of utilities
installed for modem management. One of those utilities allows me to renew\release my ip address.
Did you recieve any s/w from Comcast ?

hope this isn't too late, this shouldn't be an issue. i have my tcp/ip set up for dynamic and merely disconnect my service at the lower right portion of my taskbar (there's an additional icon there when i connect) and then reconnect.
