I am moving some servers from one location to another.
I am in need of some help in changing the IP address on these servers. What I am looking for all of the places that I need to make changes for the

IP address
Gateway address
Net Mask address

Thanks for help

IP address: You can make a one time change using ifconfig. Look at /etc/hostname.<interface> and see what the name is. You'll need to change that entry in /etc/hosts to match the new IP.

Gateway address /etc/defaultrouter

Net Mask address /etc/netmasks

Cheers,

Keith

Also, sys-unconfig will walk you through all the steps you used when you installed the system: IP, name, gateway, netmask and will make all the changes to the files. The changes don't take effect until the system reboots.

sys-unconfig is evil IMHO.

Where you change your IP depends on which (if any) name service you are using. Update your DNS/NIS records if necessary.

Update your /etc/inet/hosts file for server IP (provided your admin didn't hard-code the IP's into the /etc/host.nic files. Gateway is defined in your /etc/defaultrouter. Netmask /etc/netmasks or possibly in one of your /etc/rc2.d/ scripts.

Regards,

Mark
