I have a Mitel 3300 with an MBG. We have a number of teleworker phones and the SIP line is connected to the MBG.
We may have to change the IP address due to getting a new internet provider.

What needs to be done to change the IP address of the MBG. I understand that all the tw phones will have to be changed, but where in the phone system would the IP address be changed?

Thanks,
Jim

Its changed in the MBG (not the phone system). You need to log in to the CLI of the MBG and run through the configuring routine and just change the public IP that the the MBG in there. This is for a MBG as server and gateway. in server /gateway config you just change the external NIC (nothing to do on the internal NIC.

Can't remember what you do in a server only config because that depends on where you put it on the network.

In server only there would be some firewall work routing the external to the internal address

also check that in the MBG the streaming address has been updated ( can be forced by setting a custom network profile if required)

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Dont forget that there may have also been entries made at the remote site to allow all traffic to from teh MBG public address

And sip provider( assuming you are referring to a trunk via the internet ) may be trusting the Public IP so that may have to be updated at their side when it changes

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Thanks for the help. If you do the reconfigure, does it allow you to just change the external IP address, or do you have to re-establish all settings? (I hope not!)

You can change only the external address. you need to reboot if you change it!

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Wireman, you mentioned backing up the phone system/MBG. Will the phone system still function while the backup is going on?

Yes both will function.

On the MCD, nothing can be changed during the backup that requires read/write of the harddrive

e.g.
[ul]
[li]Forwarding[/li]
[li]Night service switching[/li]
[li]Feature Activation[/li]
[/ul]
Normal call control will continue
