I have recently relocated a HP/UX server from one subnet to another. I have edited the hosts and netconf files for the new IP address, subnet mask, gateway etc.
This server has not booted succesfully.

I have now tried to change the IP address etc for a HP/UX workstation. The IP address, subnet etc has changed ok.

However it keeps complaining it can;t find the NIS server.

How can I check that NIS is running ok on the server and are there any other files I need to change on the server or workstation ?

try ypwhich, should come back with a host it is bound to. If this doesn't you have issues.

Persoanlly, I would disable NIS (if possible), sort out the network issues, then re-enable. If the box cannot find the NIS servers on boot it hangs for what can be ages.

You've changed subnet etc ..., it the port speed/duplex correctly set on the switch ?, if there is a duplex clash this can disable the port. Is the switch your're on actually have access to the new subnet ???

Try this.

Check config of server (like have you configured the right card).
Can you ping IP address
Connect laptop with x-over cable to server, set laptop IP etc... to one above server, can you ping (both ways)

If above works, I would suggest you have a cable/switch issue.

Does NIS server(s) have access to new subnet ???

Just some ideas,

Martin

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to fix the problem in the end by spending a significant amount of time learning about how NIS worked and then tracing my way through all of the config files. I finally found one where the IP address was incorrect !

Ahh, that'll be it then .....)

Yep, presume it couldn't find the NIS servers then ...
