Changing grouped artwork and clipping mask in original layer

I'm using AI CS3 13.0.2. I have a document with one layer and four groups. In a group above the bottom group, I have a country flag that is clipped diagonally with a triangle clipping mask. I'm trying to remove that flag and replace it with a different flag still using the same clipping mask. I'm getting the new flag image by placing it into the document.

...are the flags bitmap images? if so you can re-link images via the links palette flyout menu, if they are the same dimensions then the same position will result...

...if your having to then scale the bitmap image up to fit, then you will end up with resolution problems for high end output, depending on what resolution they are to begin with...
