Changing from No Serial\Lot to Serial\Lot

Macola 7.6.300b SQL 2000

I need to change one of our companies inventory systems to use serial\lots. I do have many items with quantity on hand. I thought I could export and initialize the OEORDHDR and OEORDLIN, and then change the item in the item master to Serial\Lot, but it still gives me the error "Quantity on hand - Cannot Change". The item setup file does have Use Serial\Lot checked. There are no POP or shop orders for these items. I appreciate any help.

The serial/lot flag is captured on the oeordlin during order entry. Therefore export/import will not work. You need to either delete and re-enter the orders, or change the serial/lot flag in the oeordlin_sql table.

You will also need to establish SL qty on hand for these items.

Thanks for responding so fast. I guess I am confused, because I exported oeordlin & oeordhdr, then initialized the tables. So right now both of those tables don't have any records. But it is still giving me the error.

I beleive the message is telling you, you have to zero the quantity on hand before you can mark an item as S/L.

Most likely NEMacGuy is correct. Please post the message verbatim to this thread.

My point is, even if you resolve the message you are getting, the serial flag is captured when the order is entered, so when you import the oe files b ack,they will be incorrect.

Thanks guys for reponding. My exact message is as stated above "Quantity on hand - Cannot Change" when I click on change to Lot/Serial in the item master. I can change the oeordlin lot/serial flag once I import the file. Would you suggest coping the item\location file over, zeroing the quantities, then retry?
