Evening all,

I have a bit of a quandry, but first a bit of background, we have a large clustered network 90% on MCD5, therefore the user and device config is shared and therefore is packed with over 8000 entries.

We have a site that was on MCD4 during the dark days when a hotdesk device and user needed a licence each. Now that we are on MCD5 I'd quite like to claw back those licences, so it would appear quite simple in that I go into the device and change Full service to IP Device only.....but no, why would it ever be that simple. When I try to change it I get the error message 'Invalid service change error'. If I delete the number and re-add it it works fine on the same class of service etc as before. Ah problem sorted you may say....but not when you have 2 sites of over 200 hotdesks.

So to my question, a: is there a way of doing this without manually doing it long hand (deleting the number and recreating)? and b: if I export the user and device config form, make the appropriate changes on that sites spreadsheet, delete the numbers from the phone system and then re-import the adjusted spreadsheet will if work and will it cause any detremental issues to any of the other sites in the cluster?

I know I've been a bit long winded and rambled on but I wanted to give as full a picture as possible.

Many thanks in advance

You must delete and recreate when reducing the service level. I've found that increasing the service level works in some cases (multi-device to Full)

Export - Delete manually - Import with Adjustments -
- Make sure systems synchronize the deletions before re-adding
- Make sure you record all key appearances of the phones (on other phones)(if applicable)
- Pickup groups (automatically removed - no warning)
- Hunt Groups(automatically removed - no warning)
- Busy Lamps(automatically removed - no warning)
- Page Groups(automatically removed - no warning)
- Call re-routing assignments

Don't know if this also applies to changing from Full to IP. From the Release 6 marketing bulletin:

We are also simplifying the administration process when a User wants to migrate to using the Multi-Device User capability. A normal Full Service User can now be automatically changed to be a Multi-Device User by adding them into a Multi-Device Group. This means the Full Service configuration no longer needs to be deleted and then re-added.
