I have an existing filesystem (25g in size) that I want to convert to handle big files. I can remove the existing filesystem and create a new one in place of it. What are my steps?

Back up the existing filesystem.
remove the existing filesystem (rmfs /filesystemname). This will also remove the LV.
Create the new LV.
Create the new FS. Be sure to select the large file enabled option in smit. otherwise it will be the default non-large file enabled.
mount the FS.
Restore from your backup.

Do you need more details?

(I do not understand why large file enabled is not the default.)

Good luck.

Yep I agree about the default. I need to know how the current LV is made up so I can create the new LV with the same area, right? And then create the new FS. The existing FS I do not need. I just want to recreate the existing one but to handle large files. Thanks for your help.

You don't absolutely have to, and now would be the time to make any changes if you want. There is a script in FAQ (faq52-2441) that may help you see the layout of the LV on the disks.
