I give free support to a church that had a power hit via a transformer or lighting. This is a small environment with maybe 6 computers.

I determined that a small 4-port switch was bad, and replaced it. There is a 100-foot run to the next computer.

Anyway. As I was making all the RJ connectors into 568-A anyway, I did this on both ends on the 100 foot run to the next computer.

At this point, I think both ends are 568-A. However, the tester said pairs (1-2) and (3-6) and (7-8) were reversed. (???????)

So, (next day) I reversed these pairs. Now the tester indicates the line is ‘green’ or ok on these pairs for a lan ( straight through) connection.

The computer on the end of this line says ‘not plugged in’!!!!!

The computer is ok because I ran a line down the hall, an connected to the switch.

Obviously, I’m not a cable guy.

Any suggestions are appreciated. The rub is, it may have been ok if I didn’t try to fix it!

Thanks,
BobLenard

do yourself a favor and lose the crimp tool , run 100'cat 5 cable terminate both ends to cat5 keystone jacks then use factory made patch cables to the switch and to the workstation
