A project plan is constructed, resources assigned and then it is baselined using MSP. Then, weekly it is updated and the remaining work rescheduled. After the work is rescheduled, often times the task durations change. Does anyone know why this happens? Durations are entered in days, fixed units, and effort driven.

MS Project 101:

Duration = Work * Units

There are three task types: fixed units, fixed work and fixed duration. Depending on the task type, changing one of Duration, Work or Units will change one of the other two to hold the equation in equilibrium.

You asked (in essence): Does anyone know why things change the way you described? Well, now you do.

(Oh, did I mention the "Effort Driven" indicator?)
