Hi,
I need to change a picture into 800x600 and 72 dpi.
Im using photoshop 7.0
I choose Image -> Image size
changing to 800x600 is fair enough, but how do i change the dpi?
i can only change ppi it seems, is this the same, or??
It is very important that the picture is 72 dpi, its for
an application to a school, and they won't even look at it
unless its 72 dpi (or so they say).

I hope someone can help me out on this, fast :)
thanks

It's not really the same thing but I'm sure what they mean is actually ppi.

Sounds like you are making a jpg right? If so you don't even need to change the ppi in Image Size. Once you have it at 800 x 600 then do a Save for Web and it will make it 72ppi.

thank you very much for such a quick response :)
btw, 72 ppi/dpi, is that kinda low quality? sounds like it
read somewhere that monitors only show 72-96 ppi/dpi, higher numbers are only shown when printing/scanning. is that right?

thanks

Yes, monitors work at 72 dpi. Text printing is best at 600 dpi or above. Photo printing is usually done at 300 dpi (as in from printing presses - not your own printer).

Anything above 72 dpi is worthless if it's only going to be viewed on a monitor, as the monitor will not be able to recognize the increased resolution.
