Changing DN's on Phones with Flash

Ok. I've seen this question posed a number of times in a number of forums but none of the fix's I've seen have worked so far.

Here's the situation. We have a Norstar Compact ICS 4.0 System with a Flash VM module. I had a 7208 on my desk, and decided to swap it with a 7316.

Before I started, the small phone (7208) had a DN of 26.
The big phone, (7316) had a DN of 25. Both phones were configured for use and both phones had voice mail boxes associated with them. The mailboxes had the same numbers as the DNs (so MBOX 26 was the VM Box for DN 26, etc.)

So, to swap the phones, I simply went into the **266344 menus, went to Change DN, and switched them. I believe I set 26 to 30, then 25 to 26, and then 30 to 25. I then changed the names of the phones and everything worked. I could call in, hit 26 and the 7316 would ring. No worries.

BUT, flash seems to think that the 7316 is still DN 25, and that the 7208 is still DN 26.

I've tried re-assigning the MBOX's to other DN's and then BACK to their respective DN's, I've tried deleting both mailboxes, recreating them, and assigning them to their respective DN's, all with no luck.

If I want voice mail to work at all, then I have to create MBOX 26 and then assign it to DN 25. Then, if someone calls in, uses the company directory to reach me at extension 26 (or just punches in my extenstion of 26), they'll get MY phone (which is DN 26) but if I don't answer, they'll be forwarded to the voice mail box meant for DN 25.

This set up WORKS, but it's not RIGHT and that bugs the living daylights out of me. PLUS, I just know it's going to bite me in the butt sometime down the road. What can I do to fix this?

ASmith667,
Just one question. Why did you change the DN number in system programming menu. If you are simply moving DN 26 to the location where 25 was. And moving 25 to the location where 26 was. You can turn on "Set Relocation" in the feature settings of System Programming Menu. One caution, when you do this wait about ten minutes between the time you plug the first phone in and when you plug the second phone in. This feature will carry all the progamming of each DN to it's new location. I go back in and turn it off after the phones have been moved. Just in case people move phones without knowing about the wait period.
Dmac,

Exactly! ASmith667 has the right of it. When you changed the DN you simply changed the 'name' of the port, not the port itself.
To move a phone with all the programming for the phone intact do as ASmith667 says and turn on the 'set relocation' move the phones and then turn it off again.
It will save you a lot of hassle! MRoberts

Ahhhhh....but I believe that Set Relocation is ALREADY turned on. If I unplug my phone from my office, carry it over to the server room and plug it into a phone jack in there, I still have the same DN, extension, VM, whatever. OR, if I decide to switch offices with someone we just pick up our phones and take them with us. I'm assuming that this is what Set Relocation is.

So, in my case, I wanted to use a different phone, but at the same DN. If I had just brought the phone I wanted into my office and plugged it in, it would have had the other employee's extension and voice mail. The reason I wanted to to switch the TYPE of phone that I had was because it seemed like everyone in the office had a phone capable of doing system programming except for me....the one guy in the office that does any of the system programming...:)

I checked the system programing menu and Set Relocation is indeed turned on. You have to realize that my knowledge of the system is limited to what I've been able to glean from the documentation (which are a friggin joke) and what I've been able to dig up on line. When the system was installed, I got the impression that Set Relocation was just an inherent function of the system itself. At the time, people where moving around to different offices all the time so I saw it as a Good Thing. Heck, the key presses necessary to get into the system programming menu wasn't even provided, I had to track that down myself!

All that having been said, how do I fix Flash so that it knows which phone is ACTUALLY DN 26? The ICS system knows which phone is 26, but Flash thinks THAT phone is DN 25.
If there is a 10 minute delay, perhaps I should:

1.) Delete the mailboxes for both extensions.
2.) Unplug both phones
3.) Wait 10 minutes
4.) Plug in ONE phone
5.) Wait 10 minutes
6.) Plug in the other phone
7.) Wait 10 minutes
8.) Create new mailboxes.....
9.) Profit!

Niether I nor the other employee ever really recieve any
calls so monkeying around with these two phones is no big deal.

Sorry about the name mix up!
If the phones are where they are supposed to be and ID as they should be then all you should really have to do is delete the mailboxes and recreate them. MRoberts

I've deleted and recreated the mailboxes numerous times to no affect.

Ok. I finally have it all sorted out. It took some doing, and included a number of DN changes, Port swapping, turning Set Relocation on and off. I had to create a table of sorts to keep track of the changes and discern a pattern. It was kind of like solving a Rubik's Cube. *grin*

As long as you got it sorted out! <whew> ;-) MRoberts
