Changing/disabling text in a push button

I am looking for the command that will change the text in a pushbutton, and enable/disable it. I know how to do this from properties, but I want to do it in actual code, so that I can change button titles without using the properties window.

I am also trying to do the same with a menu.

Any thoughts would be very helpful.
