Hi everyone !!

As anybody ever change the default dimension selection ?

I have to change route numbers and alpha tagging numbers (calculation described on MOL tips, I can post a tip here if you want)...

But I don't know the issue, how can this kind of change is managed, and how it works when upgrading ?

Regards

Now, it's about French users too !!!

The system would not allow you to change dimensions over the limits. During the upgrade you should restore dimensions from the backup. Besides that you have to know what are you doing. I changed dimensions for experimental purposes only. I prefer to go with default settings whenever it's possible.

Take it from one who has been down this path, FLEXIBLE DIMENSIONS (aka MSA-A-35) is a royal pain in the rear, E*S*P*E*C*I*A*L*L*Y when doing software upgrades.

I would strongly advise against anyone considering Flex Dim.

Two words: "Never, ever!!!"

Dimension resource bucket sizes often change with subsequent loads, requiring you to re-flex the system with every new load. (Grrrrr.....)

MitelInMyBlood,
Agreed, it will kick you back sooner or later.

Thanks for the tip...
But my client wants to configure 800 alpha tagging numbers...
That means I need to configure 8000 digits blocks..

Default number is about 4000...so I'll need to do it.

I'm aware of your warnings...
I just have to think about it.

When upgrading, it asks if you want to use default dimension selection or current, right ?

Anyway thanks guys...

I agree with all comments about "flex dim" it may well come back and bite you...
I am having a similar issue with one of my customers, looking to alpha tag 800 entries and they are using an MX controller. I am having a conversation with them about upgrading controller. I take it you have a Cx or Mx. If you could get them on a Mxe or an LX (with 512 of mem) the default digit blocks jump should upto 12055 which should cater for your requirements...

I put Flex Dims on a large machine starting shortly after it was first offered on the SG back in M-stream (LW26). We even had a PI study done with specific flex values given to us by Mitel. The intent was to get more supersets than any standard MFRD at the time would allow.

The customer was subsequently prevented from migrating to the 2K-light platform until Expanded Pers became available because prior to E-Pers a conventional 2K light could not replace a 4-cabinet SG. (Still can't but's it's close now). As we moved the cust forward onto the 2K-Light platform we had to continue w/Flex Dims again to get 1700 supersets.

Gradually the system became rife with performance problems, sets going to sleep, intermittent no handset audio, distorted speakerphone audio sounding like single-sideband, all none of which Prod Supp had ever seen. With each and every ensuing upgrade we found ourselves having to constantly re-adjust the flex values because bucket sizes would change as new features became available.

The cust. finally bit the bullet and clustered and went back to a standard MFRD. HALLELUIA!!! Trust me, by all things holy there is no way on God's Green Earth I would ever Flex another system. It is an incredible and unending hassle that you will regret.

There will be times in your life when it is necessary to occasionally tell a customer "No". In my opinion this is one of those times.
