Anyone have an idea on how to change the cd key on 2000 Pro without reinstalling? I have a customer that is illegal and recently purchased a licensed copy. We would rather not have to start from scratch if we don't have to.

Execute winnt32.exe from the I386 folder on the new 2000 CD, and choose Upgrade, it will ask for the CD-KEY, make installation without loosing anything.

As long as your customer has a valid license certificate for win 2K (meaning he/she has a certificate that represents ONLY one installation of the OS for this computer) there is no reason to change the key. It is not illegal to use the same CD and key for multiple installs, simply illegal not to have a certificate for each instance. Good luck, and Happy Computing
