I recently rolled out 13 machines with Windows XP and I have one user who is having problems printing. We use an old DOS application for our membership data. This particular user runs a daily report from this DOS application but since the install of her new machine it takes 5-6 minutes for the report to print, in comparison to 2-3 minutes with her old 95 machine.

Someone mentioned to me about increasing the buffer and file size.

My question is, where do I go to increase the Buffer and File size?

\WINDOWS\system32\CONFIG.NT (has help info in it - as it says you can specify a config file specifically for the dos app concerned (if you go to properties, program, advanced for the shortcut to the app).

Hi There, Sekermestrovich;

To access the virtual memory manager in winxp:

Click Start-

right click on-My Computer-

click on- Properties-

click on the-Advanced Tab

Click on the -Performance settings-Button

Click the Advanced Tab in performance options window

Click Virtual Memory-Change-button....you should now be in the virtual memory manager...

Before you do all this go to the following link...scroll down the page until you get to several lengthy articles on page buffers and page file sizes...all good stuff to know..I hope this helps...
