What would be the logical steps to make sure the IP phones are going to work and have the correct DN in the following circumstance?

o BCM 400 rls 4
0 20 1120E IP phones currently registered.
o The customer network is changing so the BCM and all IP phones will require new address's (S1 IP & set IP's)

I know how to change all the addresses I'm concerned that after changing the IP's the BCM will still rememeber all the old IP phones that are registered and screw up the programming and/or DN's of the same IP phones will come up with new IP's.

Would I "deregister" all the "old" address's before making theIP changes????
Would I "deregister" the phones after the BCM IP change????
Just looking for a logical flow...
I'm trying not to end up with a mess.
Any advice appreciated :)

I would just deregister all of the IP sets from the BCM. No problem as long as you label each set before you make any changes. When you re-register them make sure auto assign dns is not enabled & you will be able to choose the same dn for each set. I am sure that there is probably another way of doing it but this has always worked for me.

If the IP address of the BCM is changing then the Phones will need to Know the New S1 address in order to connect to system.

If the Bcm is issuing the information and the phones set for Full Dhcp they should register after a reboot.

If the phones are set up for Partial Dhcp then you will have to go to each phone and maually change the SI address to the New BCM address.

The system will know what set is what because it is based upon the MAC address of the phone and not the IP address it is given. Change the IP address and then reboot the phones. As Snowman50 pointed out, if the DHCP is set to Partial, you will need to manually change the S1/S2 address to properly reflect the new system IP address.

An easy way to reboot all the phones is to reboot the POE switch.
