Ive a problem with Op 61 not backing up to floppy on both CPU 1 & CPU 2. So im going to replace both MMDU's (NT4N43DA's).

What are the steps i should take to swap both out, I ve beeen given permission to take the system down if needs be.

Also the system has not backed up to floppy for about a month, and when i tried to read the floppy in my PC it said it needed to be formatted, is this normal.

Im just unsure whether i have a good backup to load from.

Are you sure you need to change these out ?
Almost unheard of 2 going??
I would check out the easy possibilities and have you tried an Attended Back-Up 'ABKO' as well as midnights?
Cheers!!

Yeh, tried the ABKO, tried EDD CLR, tried different floppy's, tried an INIT.

It backs up to Hard Disk OK but only fails to floppy, on BOTH.

Not tried a Full Power Down tho, but if it doesn't come back up i could lose the lot.

Is your powersupplies working as they should?
Sometimes (on some systems) there are special power circuits from the power supplies that runs cd and floppy drives.

Have you done any upgrades or changes of equipment?

Sometimes the power supplies has to be changed aswell.

power down will not help. split the cores, replace cmdu on the inactive, switch over, do a backup and test.. i've seen 1 bad a drive in 30 years on this box..

Check at the back for any connector problems?

Cheers!!

Thanks for the help guys.

I cracked it tho.

I split the cores, so the non active side did a SYSLOAD and came up on its own. Did a BKO on non active and it worked.

I then joined them and did a BKO on the active side and it also worked.

So must have just been locked up in s/w.

Cheers
