Changing 128 bit encryption to 40 bit encryption

We have a software application that we host on a server for our client. Many of their browsers are not updated to have 128 bit encryption - they can only have 40 bit encryption. I know that updated the browser solves this - but how is this done to the site to accept the 40 bit encryption. My programmer is out of town and I need assistance.
