I have a customer with quicken 2000. They recently changed their printer as the old one died. They called me in because quicken would not print.

The printer is networked on another PC (workgroup)
There is only one printer.
The machine with quicken 2000 is running Windows Me

The symptoms are that quicken simply will not print. No error message, nothing!
You cannot select file/printer setup - reports
You can select the correct printer from printer setup/cheques - but it does no good.
If you delete the printer - then quicken does recognise that there is no printer.

I have tried deleting and re-installing the printer.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing quicken from the CD
I have tried moving the printer to this PC and installing the printer as a local printer.
Nothing worked
All other software (word/excel etc etc) is happy to use the printer.
The old printer was a Kyocera 1750 and the new one is a Kyocera 2000D

Please don't suggest they upgrade quicken. They don't like the new quicken! In fact they don't like any version after 2000 and 1998 was better apparently!

I have run out of things to try.

So if anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this problem I would be very grateful.

Presumably there are other applications on the Windows ME machine. Do any of these print ok? Even try Notepad if nothing else available...

What about a test print from the printer setup in ME. Does that work?

Is the driver for this new printer supported under ME? If not, check out printer manufacturer's website for any suitable driver.

As I already mentioned all other software is happy with the printer. That includes notepad and even wp5.1 for DOS!

It is only quicken that will not play ball. You can print - but nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. No hour glass, no print, nothing in the printer queue, zilch, nothing.

What should happen, is a printer dialog box should pop up to verify you meant to print and are happy with the number of pages, layout etc.

Never used Quicken so not familiar with it. Does it have any kind of printer settings within it anywhere that may still be pointing to the 1750?

Might be worth looking here,

as it sounds like an application problem rather than a Windows problem.

No it has no settings of its own that I can see bar selecting a printer, the same, say, as word does, when more than one is available. I have tried all the suggestions on the quicken forum. It does seem to be a bug(let) in quicken. No one on the quicken forums has posted a definite solution that I have found though.

I am not familiar with this software either. I agree it seems to be a Windows Me/quicken issue. Some bug in Me interacting with a bug in quicken? I don't know, only guessing.

I am posting here more in hope and desperation than expectation! LOL Someone, somewhere must have come across this and found a work around? Or maybe not?

Many thanks for your suggestions though.
