I'm trying to install a replacement Fujitsu
MAA-3182SC drive into one of my arrays.
my system incorrectly identified it as
a 'SUN 18g' drive type.
When I change the type to match the other
5 drives I have like this, format will not
write a label correctly, and format itself fails
while trying to write beyond the last blocks,
as SUN18g has 7507 and MAA03182SC has 7569.
Anyone know how to make this disk accept a
type change command? Do I have to do low level
formatting wih the system down?

just a guess, but check your firmware version (bug id 4336161), reports label problems in FUJITSU MAA3182S, that problems afect disk with firmware versions < 2107, if this is the case try first upgrade firmware version, you can do that with patch id 107028-02, this will "upgrade" to firware 2107.

Hope this helps,

Carlos Almeida,

Thanks!.... but 107028-02 patch program
shows disks I have problems with at V. 2107.
disks that worked correctly were way back at
V 1090. I worked around; after thinking calmy for
an hour or two (or six!) I simply changed the partition
size on the new disk to match the number of blocks
I have on the existing - hoorah, I can rebuild my mirror
and was able to sync up. Thanks for the tip though,
that is as close as I was able to get to the actual problem.
