I have created a trace file to use at a client site. I open the trace file, which is fine, however I wanted to be able to change some of the properties (such as the server it needs to point to, and a stop time). When you create a new trace this is available, but for an existing one, how do you(can you) change this. Tried properties, nothing there to change this

I think the trace may be running at the clients site. When the trace is running, you are not able to manipulate any properties of the trace.

Once you stop it, click on the Properities button again. you are now able to redirect the the trace to run on a different server by clicking on the "Trace SQL Server" button from the General tab as well as set the new time duration by enabling the "Enable Trace Stop Time" box and setting the new time.

I have several traces set up on various servers and have tested what I just relayed at several site.

Let ne know if this was the case ... that is the trace was running.

Thanks

J. Kusch

Did you save the file as a Trace file, when you open it do and click start replay do you not get an option then to connect to the server?

DUh, I found it, I saved the template, but need to create a new trace on other server but use this defined template. TGIF
