Change the size of the Artboard 2

Just converted over to Illustrator after several years of Freehand, new job and such. Question is that I have an ad that will be in magazine measuring 10" x 14". When the artboard is viewed it is still only 8.5" x 11". How can I change the area in which material should be printed in?

I create new document and set the page up at 10x14, but the artboard doesn't change.

I meant to say how to change the imageable/nonimageable area of the artboard so that all my work will fit.

I need to have a bleed all sides work when finished.

I think you're actually talking about two different things... The artboard is the size of the document, indicated by a solid black line. You can set that when you create a new document or if you go into document setup under the file menu. There is also something called Page Tiling, indicated by a dotted line. Page Tiling is related to your print settings. If the artwork in your document goes beyond the dotted line, that portion of the document won't print. Try changing your paper size or output percentage when you go to the print dialog box, then click DONE instead of PRINT. You should see the artboard (dotted line) change size.

In other words, don't worry about the dotted line if you're not doing the final output. Create your design in relation to the artboard (solid black line). Also, in the View menu there are options to show and hide different things... Play around with them to see what each one is called and how it shows up in your document.

Thanks, I just got your message. I will try using the instructions given to me. I'll let know after lunch.

Go to Page Setup & select a page size and orientation that your 10x14 will fit on i.e. tabloid.

When you hit ok, you will see the dashed box get bigger.

Go to the bottom left of your tool bar to the little hand, click & hold it down to show a little square with a crosshair on it's corner.

Select this tool & touch your page.

You will see the dashed box move to where you touched the page.

Hold the mouse button down & move the dashed box so it is centered over your page.

Now when you print, you will know exactly where your image will print on the tabloid page.
