RE: Windows 2000 Pro

Hello,

Can anyone please tell me how to set the View default setting in the Explore to "List" mode?

I have too many files to scroll through to find the file I want when viewing through "Large Icon" or "Details" mode.

Thank you.

Hello, jbrooks.

Perform the following little ritual, see if it does the trick.

In Explorer at some folder, adjusting the view to list etc to your liking, then close the Explorer by holding down the ctrl key and mouse click on the top-right close (X) button.

jbrooks,

the way it's done for ALL instances is this:

explore your window and set everything the way you want to view it..then at the top of the screen, go to "tools", then "Folder options" then click the "View" tab, and click "like current folder".

This will force windows 2000 to open any and all future folders in the exact same manner as you had just set.

The tip tsuji suggested works, but only for the folder you are viewing - the method im posting will work for all folders, so use which ever method works best for you !
:)

Hello all.

I take back what I've posted in response#1. It is a procedure valid in win9x. It is no longer needed for win2k in two senses, namely, win2k explorer remembers the individual folder settings is much secured and that its global settings through folder view is also under much better controlled and secured. Win2k's interace on the folder settings is substantially improved over win9x, so the use of "like current folder" is now under much better control, not like that in win98 which is a bit haphazard. In win9x, the ritual I posted turns out to be better than the use of the "like current folder"!

So, jbrooks, you should follow the authentic method as posted by pbxman. Excellent follow-up, pbxman. Thank you.

regards - tsuji
