hi there,

i know about changing the resolution for the x...
its in /etc/X11/XFconf or something like that
i have the entrys "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" there.
Well thats cool, and 1024x768 works for the x. Now i wanted to know if its possible to change the resolution for the commandline too?
The letters there are very big and if i type "top" to see all processes, it goes all out of the screen... :(
I would like to have more confortable commandline. Is there a way to change the resolution there? Or if its on 1024x768 already, is there a way to change the size of the font there?
Thanks for help!
cheers, lucas

Check out the 'vga' commandline option you can pass to the kernel via lilo'. I use 'vga=1' (don't recall exactly what resolution that is, but it fills my screen up and is pretty readable).

I do not believe you can change the resultion for command lines (this is because it is using generic drivers for the moniter and video, and because a lot of command line programs rely on the screen being a certain size (you can change the num of character height and num of chars width, but redhat I believe defaults this to its highest settings). If you have a long list of output try command | more[/color red] . This will pause after every screen full of output.

hi and thanks to you both for this answers. I belive that it must work somehow to change the resolution or the character size (<-- would be all i needed). I have a geforce2mx and 17" samsung screen, normally resolution higher than 1024x768 work on this. And redhat knows the graphics card and has the right drivers for it.
If i boot my machine with knoppix or suse, it gives me a nice small size on the command line so ii wont need commands like |more or |less. Does anyone have an idea how to change it?

Flugh: i dont have lilo, i got grub. I searched through the whole boot and grub directory and looked at all these documents with vi. I didnt find out anything about the size or resolution at all, and no entry such as vga=x...
Any other ideas?
