HI there,

The problem I have is I have a Word 2007 template, DOTX file that I wish to distribute to some low level users. Basically it's a form that they fill in using form fields.

I need documents created with this template to be stored on a network drive, not the Word default. Some user will have problems navigating to this.

I have managed to sort out the filename, first text fields is the membership No so Word picks that up by default

Fly in the ointment, it's on a secure network that refuses to let me run any VB so code is not an option.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Neil

Hi,

If I understand you correctly, why not setup an appropriately named shortcut to the required folder in each user's My Documents folder. The user then just clicks on the shortcut and it takes them to exactly where you want them to go.

Good Luck!

The correct way to do this is to create a folder on the server (lets call it Workgroup Templates) and place the dotx in that folder. Make sure to write protect it to stop accidental editing (a tought lesson I learnt!)

Users should then modify their file locations so that the Group Templates option points to the server Folder using UNC path (not mapped drive path).

This setting is in Word Options, Advanced Tab, right at the very botton, File Locations Button. Select Workgroup Templates, Modify and navigate to the Workgroup Templates folder on the server. Ignore mapped drive letters.

After restarting word, the template will show up in their
File, New dialog.
