Hi guys, i'm currently using Symante Corp 9 on about 400 client PC's, unfortunatly the server holding the SSC is going and will be replaced by another server with a different name. How will the clients deal with this or will they all need installing again?

Or could i add an alias into DNS pointing to the new server?

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks.

The alias will not work. I would suggest that you go ahead and build the second server. Install AV server on it and the SSC console. Make it part of your old servers group. Promote it to the Primary server. Then script your workstations to read in the new servers grc.dat file on repoint themselves to the new server. See the following thread742-1024455 where I have posted some helpful batch files to accomplish this.

I just wanted to add that the SSC that ships with SAV 9.x also allows you to simply drag and drop clients from server to server. Droppping a GRC.DAT is no longer necessary, but still works like a charm as well.

Excellent i'll look into it cheers guys.
