I can launch 'local security policy' from Administrative Tools on my own pc but how can i look at the same settings on a remote pc? I launched mmc and have been adding snap-ins but not finding what I need; the local username i'm logged in with now exists on the other pc too, with the same passord, fwiw.
Thanks,

Start -> Run -> mmc.exe
File -> Add snapin -> Group Policy Object Editor -> Add.
Click the Browse button, choose Another Computer, enter its NetBIOS name then click OK.

Click Finish.
Close the Add Standalone snapin screen.
Close the list of snapins.

You should now have the Group policy object editor running pointing at your remote PC.

John,

Thanks for your reply. i had actually done those steps, and what confuses me is that while i can change locally, say, the "Do not display last username" policy, i didn't find the equivalent command when adding Group Policy Object Editor to mmc and browsing to the remote computer in question.

Perhaps i'm doing something wrong? locally, i can Start>Run>secpol.msc to get the local security settings and i want to access those settings on the other pc remotely. sorry that i wasn't so specific in my first post, about my goals.

thanks,
