Change paper color to white in word 97

I got an old laptop from my Dad for school, but whoever he got it from messed with the settings or something because no matter what I do, the paper is showing as dark blue in Word.

I have tried changing the background color, shadings, anything at all to white but nothing does it. Did this person mess with the normal.dot file or something? How do I get it back to white?

Hi Melanie,

Look under Tools|Options|General and uncheck the 'blue background, white text' option.
