Hi all,

After some advice.

I have just installed a a fresh install of Netbackup 6.0MP4 to a newly built 2003 Server Enterprise.

Now, there is already a Master server within this environment which I don't want to use anymore.

I would like to install the client software on to this master server.

Are there any special steps I need to take to carry this out as when attempting the client install I can't select the option to "install to this computer only" & I then get asked for remote hosts.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.

I believe that since the server in question is a master server already, you need to remove netbackup before installing the client. At least this has been my experience in the past. Our scenario was similar, we were putting in new master servers and retiring the old ones. We simply kept them around to do old restores if required.

Since we did not want to uninstall netbackup for obvious reasons, we simply do not backup that server with the new master server.

Ok thanks.

My problem is that the current Master Server in question is the file server also so I really need to backup this server from the new Master Server.

Look's like worst case I will need to uninstall Netbackup.

I will need to test the fact that I can restore data from tapes taken from the current Master Server 1st!

Try this,

change the bp.conf on the first client (stop NBU first)

The first server entry, change this to the name of the new master server.
Change the EMM server entry to the new master server.
If there is an entry in vm.conf with the old master server name you can probably just rename vm.conf to vm.conf_old.

Hopefully, it'll now act as a client.
