I have an existing table with records where the PK is a number type field and I need to change the field to autonumber type. Can this be done without renumbering the existing records, which would really be a HUGE pain because this number field (BidderID) links to records in several other tables. So - I need to change the field type AND the autonumber needs to start at a specific number. I am using Access 2000. Can anyone help me?

Can you not leave the existing as is and just insert a new field in your table and make it the autonumber field

Hope this helps

I don't think that will work because this field needs to be referenced as a link between this table and several other tables for the existing records as well as future records so I can't have two fields. For instance, the field in question is called "BidderID" and that ID links to the Bidder's bid records, payment records, etc.
