Hello,
I need to find out how to change my sun machines mac address so I can connect to the internet. The reason being my ISP requires me to register all systems MAC address that are going to be connected to the net. However I can never get through to tech support because all the lines are always bussy.

thks

The MAC address is burned into the ID-PROM, (or NVRAM on newer systems). It is associated with the interface rather than hosts, so if interface moved to another machine it's address goes with it.

It may be possible to swap ID-PROMs on older systems or swap the interface boards (if they are not part of the mother board).

It's probably easier to find a new ISP.

check out the man page on arp. you can arp a different mac address. It would be very similar to setting up network address translation.
I believe you would
(note 10.3.5.5 would be an additional ip address not your current one.)
arp -s 10.3.5.5 8:0:20:ed:aa:3
you will need to route that traffic accordingly to your original address

I dont think this will sove your issue, but I realized that after I typed it all... so here you go anyway
