Change Item Number

Is it possible to change an item number once the item has been entered? If what would happen when you delete the item if it already on sales orders/invoices?

What is the best way to change the item number?

You can only delete an item from Great Plains if there is no history on it (ie no posted transactions). There are tools available from MS that will allow you to change the item numbers. It runs an update script against all tables that contain the ITEMNMBR field.

If you do not want to purchase the tool, you could remove history on the item, then delete it OR you could locate all the tables that contain the ITEMNMBR field (tools > resources > fields). Once you have all the fields in a script, you could save it and use later.
