Hello -

I am trying to connect to a system across the network (different segment than myself) using ASA. My contact at the site can connect to the system, but I cannot. I can ping my contact's PC, can ping addresses on both sides of of the system, so it is not an addressing issue per se.

When I ask him to do a "disp ip-services" I see that no default gateway is configured ... which would seem to make sense on why he can connect being on the same segment, but I cannot. When I asked him to do a change ip-services and add the default gw, he says it asks him to disable the card. I don't want to have him do that, because I believe he will no longer be able to access it unless he goes and physically connects to the Definity. Is this the only way to do so?

Thanks

as far as i know, yes. you will have to either dial into inads, or go to the terminal.

The correct form to change is 'ip-interface'. Without the default gateway you will not be able to access the switch. As was previously pointed out, you can dial into the INADS port, use the local SAT, or, if you have more than one C-LAN board, enable SAT on the other boards.

You will have to run 'cha ip-i' and set enable to 'n' for that card, make the changes, then enable the card again. I don't see why your contact won't be able to connect seeing that he would be on the same segment as the C-LAN after adding the gateway address.
