How do I change my machines ip on turbolinux
when I boot the kernel says my ip name is .I want to drop that . on the front end.

If I try to run linuxconf as root I get permission denied?
where do I go.

Try executing [tt]hostname new.hostname[/tt]. This will set it for that sessions, meaning that it will disappear when you reboot. Having never used TurboLinux, I don't know where to change it to make the change permanent. In RedHat, it is in [tt]/etc/sysconfig/network[/tt]. //Daniel

found network in the same place
/etc/sysconfig/network
