Hello Everyone, I have a desktop system with a Promise FastTrack100 ATA Raid controller. I currently have the system configured in a Raid 1 setup and would like to know if I can break the mirror and re-configure it as a Raid 0 setup without losing data. This is just a desktop system so I would rather have the performance increase over the reliability of a mirror.

Thank you, any info would be great

Ken

As the data is mirrored on both disks, You effectively have an exact copy of the data on each disk. Therefore you should not have any problems changing to the striping raid system. However I would strongly advise you to backup the data just in case.

Maybe I don't understand the question but.... If you try and configure those 2 drives from Raid 1 to 0 you're going to lose the data on both of them since the striping will require a format and it will destroy the data when you setup the Raid 0 configuration in the Raid Bios.

You would need to move your data off of at least one of the disks (backup) and then create your raid config. And then copy that data from the backup to new Raid 0 "drive" We are always looking for new members at our computer forums: Please come join our community too.
