I am a programmer administering a network for a client. I am running a simple WinNT40 file server on ethernet with about 14 users. Mostly win98 but one dual boot winnt40 and win98. When I changed from a hub to a switch - TrendNet TE100-S24 plus, The dual boot machine could not open IE6.0 in either NT or 98!!! I need to move to the switch. Any ideas on the problemand a fix????

Here is my guess. a hub is usually a fixed speed and duplex device, so no settings were needd.

The switch is trying to get the maximum speed it can from each port, and in one case is "too fast".
You may wish to set the ethernet card to 10 meg half duplex on that port.

another possibility, both the swich and the NIC can go fast but the wiring between them is not good enough to go that fast. The one thing you can't give for your heart's desire is your heart. - Lois McMaster Bujold
