On my Windows XP workstation the font color that list files in my C:\ folder and subfolders is now showing up in blue. Before it used to show up in black. Please advise how I change the font color back to black and why did the color change without me doing anything?

Blue is usually used to identify compressed files or folders.

Are you sure you did not compress the drive by any chance?

Other than that right clicking on an empty space on the desktop choosing Properties. Then Appearance and then on the Advanced button should pop up a nice dialog where you can change colors for many thing including fonts.

Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Thanks, I did compress the files.

I tried changing in the Properties as you suggested and the color still stays blue, even after a reboot.

Please advise.

That's it. They are blue because they are compressed. Its windows way of telling you they are compressed. I don't think you can change it unless you modify the registry.

but I have no idea which registry key controls that.

You can switch off the colour: Tools/Folder Options/View
and uncheck "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color

Thanks, where do I find Tools/Folder Options/View area?

Go into Windows Explorer, click on tools at the top, select Folder Options in the drop down menu. Then click the View tab. Scroll down almost to the bottom. you'ss see an entry saying 'Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color'. Take the check out of that box then click Apply and OK & all will be back to normal (or at least back to black) {;›)
