change fiscal year-end for historical year

We have a newer company with May 31 as it's year end. I was just told today this should have been Dec 31.

A year-end close was run on May 31/06. I tried to change the fiscal periods, ran all the reconciles, but now the Jan 1-June 30, 2006 transactions disappeared (can't be viewed in any year) and my FRx reports are not showing the proper balances (yes, I recreated the G32 file).

So I restored from backup and would like to know how this can be done?

After you shortened the year and reconciled, did you adjust the subsiquent year to start at Jan 1 and reconcile that year?

I didn't shorten any years, I just changed the fiscal periods from June-May to Jan-Dec and then reconciled the most recent year first and then the other years.
