CHANGE EXCHANGE RETRIEVAL ?

I need to change microsoft exchange mailbox retrieval
not to hang up after e-mail is pulled back from domain.

It currently retrieves every 15 minutes and hangs up.
We had our ISP extend our log on time to 8 hour increments.

I would like exchange open to distribute "real time" as
mail is placed in our domain at the ISP as long as we are
online. When we are not online, I do not want it to retreive mail.
