Currently my Ethernet cards are set to Auto_Negotiate and I would like to switch them to 100_Full_Duplex but everytime I try to change them it says they are busy. What is the correct way to change this in AIX 5.1?

If it's the same as in 4.3, you'll have to ifconfig down detach the en? (or et?) device, rmdev -l it, then make the changes to the ent? device, then rebuild your interface.

Or, you can:
smitty chgent, then make the change to DATABASE only.

You only need to 'ifconfig en0 detach'
then 'chattr -El ent0 -a media_speed=100_Full_Duplex'

I have an additional question though:

After detaching the settings are gone. Is there a way of restoring them without doing a complete mktcpip with all the information again?

Cheers

unixfreak, I've noticed the same, never found the answer (if there is one) to that issue. I do it so rarely though that I don't mind using smitty to do it.
