Hi,

I want to change the default font of Microsoft Word 2000 for everyone in the whole network (Windows 2000). I thought this could be controlled through group policies but I can't find anything in there. Does anyone know how to do this?

Greetings,
Ruben Giaccotto

Ruben, the only way I know of to do this, is to change the location of the normal.dot template. This requires a change in each user's Word settings under Tools-Options, File locations tab. Change user templates to use the network drive.

You can do this on your PC: Change the location of user templates. Rename the normal.dot on your PC to oldnormal.dot (or something). Launch Word and it should create a normal.dot on the network directory. Close Word and make that new normal.dot read-only.

Problem: Your users will not be able to customize Word. They may be able to do it as long as they keep that session of Word open, but once they close and reopen, any settings they've made will be gone. Many users may HATE this.

You may be better off emailing everyone with the instructions to change the font in Word (or do it with a script?) and hit the DEFAULT button, which saves the change in normal.dot.
